This track offers hikers the opportunity to traverse its entire length or to enjoy shorter segments. Along the way, they can immerse themselves in stunning coastal vistas, hidden beaches, dramatic cliffs, and the forests of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge.

EXPLORE ANCIENT CAVES
Margaret River in Western Australia is home to some of Australia’s most extraordinary and breathtaking cave adventures. Along Caves Road, which runs along the Leeuwin Naturaliste Ridge under the towering Karri forests, are over 150 caves.
The Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association manages four magnificent show caves: Ngilgi, Lake, Mammoth, and Jewel. Situated to the south of Margaret River, these caves are readily accessible and each boasts its own unique narrative and distinctive formations.
BLOOMING WILDFLOWERS
Prepare to be captivated by the dazzling array of colors and intricate patterns that nature has crafted in this wildflower haven.
Margaret River stands as one of just 34 globally recognized biodiversity hotspots. In the southwestern part of Western Australia, the region is home to more than 150 orchid species and approximately 2,500 wildflower species!
While wildflowers can be seen throughout the year, the peak period to witness the sheer diversity and vibrancy of these blooms is from August to November.
BEAUTIFUL BEACHES
Margaret River’s 138 kilometers of coastline offer an aquatic wonderland just waiting to be explored!
Venture through its varied landscape featuring craggy rocky bays, striking limestone cliffs, hidden white sandy beaches, serene crystal-clear waters, and world-famous surfing spots.
For a relaxed beach day, choose from a multitude of pristine, uncrowded beaches perfect for families. Some of the best swimming spots include Gnarabup, Prevelly, Boodjidup, Indjidup, and the natural rock pools at Redgate.
KOOMAL DREAMING
The Wardandi People, the original custodians of the lands encompassing Busselton, Yallingup, and Margaret River, maintain a profound connection with the sea and are also the guardians of the numerous caves in the region.
Koomal Dreaming offers a unique chance to experience this region from their perspective. Josh “Koomal” Whiteland, a Wadandi custodian, provides an authentic and personal insight into the world’s oldest living culture. This experience comes highly recommended for those seeking a deeper understanding of the area’s heritage.
BEAUTIFUL BORANUP FOREST
Looking to immerse yourself in majestic tall timber forests? You don’t have to travel to Pemberton; instead, discover a remarkable enclave of these towering trees in the Boranup Karri Forest, just south of Margaret River.
This stunning forest is a sensory delight, with the ground blanketed in wildflowers, orchids, and fungi (when in season), accompanied by the melodies of native birds and the fresh scent of eucalyptus. Conveniently located, the forest is just a 25-minute drive south of Margaret River town along Caves Road.
MARGARET RIVER MOUTH
At the point where the Margaret River converges with the Indian Ocean lies the river mouth, a place of remarkable natural beauty and excellent surfing opportunities.
Just a short journey north along the coast, you’ll find a well-equipped carpark situated conveniently close to the river mouth.
We highly recommend exploring this area further with Josh Palmeteer’s Surf Academy or the Bushtucker Canoe and River Tour.
SURFERS POINT & MAINBREAK
Situated at Surfers Point, this legendary reef break is renowned for its large waves and powerful swells. The left-hand reef break, located several hundred meters offshore, is best surfed on swells of up to 4 meters. On days with bigger waves, it’s strictly a spot for advanced and experienced surfers. The area is also a favorite among kite surfers and wind surfers, particularly on windy days with onshore breezes.
The adjacent car park serves as an excellent spot for both watching surfers in action and for whale watching from September to November. Surfers Point is the internationally celebrated break that puts Margaret River on the map for surfing enthusiasts.
